LOS ANGELES, CA-- Upon debuting WAV Magazine at the 2004 South By Southwest Music Conference held in Austin, Texas, Editor-in-Chief Wasim Muklashy and Co-Publisher James Sullos ran out of their allotted 1,000 copies within mere hours. Also GetUnderground.com’s Music Editor and a respected DJ, Muklashy is the brainchild behind the new, Los Angeles-based WAV magazine which is aiming at the pulse of young American consumers bored with the narrow selection and conformity of mainstream pop culture.

WAV strives to bring its readers personalities, stories, and events that go against the grain by not only questioning the status quo, but by also acting out on it. Since the magazine’s founder has a strong music background, WAV also takes an innovative look at sound and those behind it – each issue is slated to highlight news makers in the increasingly collaborative fields of rock, hip hop, and electronica in an intimately personal way.

WAV’s premiere issue, which was released in March 2004, features Hip HoProphetic poet extraordinaire Saul Williams who unabashedly compares President Bush to a zit, the respected and highly visible DJ Dan’s survival of King Arthur’s roundtable, what makes Ryan Clancy (‘human shield’ and Trounce Records owner) cry, and many other artist viewpoints on relevant global events.

“We’re dedicated to progressive thinkers and progressive culture,” comments Muklashy. “A generation that craves nothing more than their right to quality music and art, their right to speak out, their right to question, their right to express, their right to think for themselves, their right to information.” Three additional issues are planned for the remainder of 2004.

Coming from veterans of the music, entertainment, multimedia, and information industries, the minds behind WAV Magazine have amassed an impressive archive of resources that they will use to cater to a growing audience that mainstream media has traditionally ignored. According to Muklashy, WAV operates under one cyclical premise, “Art influences music influences culture influences politics influences art.”
