Bringing African sounds to Indie Rock

A few days ago while browsing iTunes Music Store I found Vampire Weekend as one of my recommendations and I was hooked immediately. They have a unique sound blending Soukous guitars and other African styles with western classical and Ska-influenced indie rock. Their self titled debut album is my favorite album since Neon Bible.

Lingala/English reggae track released to the web

In what is probably a world premiere, a reggae track featuring some toasting in Lingala has been released solely to the web. "Strong" is a dancehall-flavoured reggae tune featuring the reggae grrrrl Mika and the inimitable Full Contact poet Dread Litoko toasting in Lingala.

MON ELECTRIC BIJOU

Mon Electric Bijou create a dignified, country/post-punk sound quite obviously inspired by the likes of The Flying Burrito Brothers, The Only Ones, Neu! and Archers Of Loaf whether they intended to or not. Fronted by Martin Saz, the band was formed in the summer of 2002 in Montreal, Canada. Mon Electric Bijou's debut album, Songs Made From Plastic (2002), on which Martin Saz was the only musician, was considered by many as raw and experimental rock n’ roll. After the album was released, Saz needed a time-tested band to recreate the emotional vibes of the album. He then called his collaborators, Jason Sanchez and Martin Guilbo, to join his speeding wagon.

gigzter.com - Got what it takes? Prove it!

A new Indie Music promotional website seems to be gaining traction and a lot of popularity on the Net. To date http://www.gigzter.com has about eighty (80) artists and bands online, but the pace is accelerating quickly.

There are many unique aspects to gigzter.com, but perhaps the most intriguing is the professionalism and selectiveness that is portrayed on the site. For instance, gigzter.com will not allow artists to profile themselves. Rather, all applicants are screened for quality music and talent, and then gigzter will spend the time to manually create each end every profile so that it fits the sites consistency and quality standards. Additional features of the site include full-length streaming audio for each profile page, playlists, voting, charts and more. These 'extras' seem to be key features that make the site fun and competitive for not only the artists, but their fans and numerous visitors too.

1st Iranian Underground Rock Music Album on iTunes

Kiosk on iTunes
Thursday, August 11th 2005 marked a milestone for Iranian Underground Rock Music. This was the first time, at least to our knowledge, that underground music from Iran became available for Digital Download over the internet.
The addition of Kiosk : Ordinary Man to the iTunes music catalog is important in many ways , but most importantly freedom from restrictions for publishing and performing music in Iran.
